Leonardo DiCaprio appears to have fended off Bruce Willis and a bunch of crazies.

According to box office projections, Shutter Island, last week’s #1 and the best opening of DiCaprio’s career, will stay in the top spot this weekend with roughly $21 million.

This week’s two big debuts are estimated to round out the top 3. Cop Out, starring Willis and Tracy Morgan, projects to an $18.5 million haul, while small town horror flick The Crazies is expected to take in about $15 million.

Box office machine Avatar will pass $700 million in North America, coming in ahead of movies released nearly two months after it hit theaters.

An interview with Kristen Stewart on BettyConfidential.com caught a lot of people’s attention today, as part of it seemed… familiar.

The Q&A is presented as a recent conversation arranged during promotion for The Yellow Handkerchief, Stewart’s new film. And most of the discussion sticks to that dramatic role.

But at the end is a very curious bit of Robert Pattinson talk.

“So what’s really going on with you and Robert,” asks the interviewer. “Are you dating?”

To which Stewart is said to reply, “The whole rumor tabloid stuff is so obviously false to me and I knew it was false even before I became a part of it. It has been like some sort of ridiculous show. It’s like a soap opera, but filled with false realism. I don’t take it personally. It might seem real to fans, but it isn’t.”

Hmm. Sound familiar?

Take a look at this interview (with audio) from last November, when Stewart was promoting The Twilight Saga: New Moon and said of her growing celebrity:

“I’ve gotten more comfortable with the whole rumor, tabloid stuff, it’s so obviously false to me. Look, even before I became a part of it, once I sort of became a star… it’s like a show. It’s like a ridiculous show.”

[“A soap opera with your name in it?” a reporter prompts]

“Exactly. With false realism like a soap opera that seems real but you’re not quite sure. It doesn’t bother me. I don’t take it personally.”

Gossip Cop contacted BettyConfidential, and the site confirmed our suspicions.

The answer to the “What’s going on with you and Robert?” question, the site admits, was taken from the previous roundtable discussion with reporters Stewart staged in November.

It was not an answer Stewart gave during her current promotion for The Yellow Handkerchief.

Importantly, Gossip Cop will also observe that in the original setting back in November, Stewart’s response was not even to a question about Pattinson, but, rather, regarding her overall comfort level with interviews and celebrity status.

So don’t give any weight to the “answer” BettyConfidential presents as a recent answer to a Robsten question.

It is several months old and taken completely out of context.

“Look Who’s Back Together!!!” exclaims Perez Hilton about Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley, from whom the “Sk8er Boi” singer filed for divorce a few months ago.

 After several photos were posted of Lavigne and Whibley leaving the London post-premiere party for Alice In Wonderland, Perez wrote, ”Though Avril insists the two are just friends, we think they might be working their way back to each other as lovers!”

He added, “Can’t fight a love like theirs!”

But you can fight poor reporting.

Lavigne, who performed the song “Alice” on the film’s soundtrack, remains friendly with Whibley, and they are both big fans of the movie’s director Tim Burton.

As to whether they will rekindle their romance, however, a source close to Lavigne tells Gossip Cop, “They are not getting back together.”

Neil Patrick Harris is set to make his musical directorial debut.

The “How I Met Your Mother” star will direct “Rent” at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. Harris played Mark Cohen in both the Los Angeles and second national touring productions of the iconic, Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.

This summer’s production, however, will mark the first time Harris directs.

There will be three performances of the show from August 6-8 at the Hollywood Bowl.

No casting has been completed for the musical, written by the late Jonathan Larson.

Multiple sources are reporting that American Idol’s Simon Cowell  is engaged to gorgeous Afghanistan native Mezghan Hussainy.

RadarOnline reports Mezghan, with a big smile and even bigger diamond, told executive vice president David Perel that she and Simon, who are living together, are officially engaged.

The couple met seven years ago on American Idol where Simon is the notoriously blunt judge and Mezghan works as a make-up artist. According to Simon’s publicist Max Clifford, they have been dating for almost a year. They made their fist public appearance as a couple at Simon’s 50th birthday bash.
“They are very suited,” Clifford said earlier. “She is someone who is independent and says what she thinks and feels, and he likes that. He’s probably the happiest I have ever known him in the nine years I’ve been working
 with him.”

Marie Osmond’s son Michael Blosil, who suffered from severe depression, committed suicide Friday night.

The 18-year-old jumped to his death from his downtown Los Angeles apartment around 9 p.m. last night. He left behind a note explaining that due of his life-long battle with depression he felt as though he had no friends and would never fit in.

“My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time,” a heartbroken Marie said in a brief statement issued Saturday.

Michael was one of Marie’s eight children, his father is her ex-husband Brian Blosil.

 

Olympic snowboard halfpipe bronze medalist Scotty Lago created controversy when some racy photos surfaced online.

Lago apologized to Olympic Officials and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association but was asked to leave Vancouver after TMZ posted photos taken on a public street of a girl on her knees kissing Lago’s strategically placed medal.

Now Lago claims that the pics may have been a set-up.

The boarder got chatty with TMZ outside Jimmy Kimmel Live and said the girl in the photos also approached 14-time Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps and tried to engage the swimmer in a make-out session.

Lago said his pissed at being asked to leave before the closing ceremonies and that it’s lame that the U.S. Olympic Committee didn’t have his back.

Lago also says he loves the Canadian women and gives the camera a parting shot of his 8-pack abs.

Jim Carrey, 47, is excited about his latest role — Grandfather!

Carrey’s daughter Jane and her husband Alex Santana welcomed their first child Jackson Riley Santana at 12;28 a.m Friday in Los Angeles. Jackson weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and measured 20 inches.

Jane, the lead singer for alt-rock The Jane Carrey Band said during her pregnancy that she was looking forward to having a son with her husband, who is lead singer for metal band Blood Money. The proud parents were married in November.

“I’m excited about it because I never really got along with girls growing up,” Carrey said last year. “I was a little afraid that if it was a girl that she would not like me, you know? So I’m very happy about the boy.”

In July, Carrey said, “Jane is going to be a great mom.”

Congrats to the happy family.!

Controversial Bachelor couple Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney tied the knot on Saturday at the lavish Terranea Resort on the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The 15-minute ceremony, witnessed by approximately 300 guests, will be televised on the March 8 ABC special The Bachelor: Jason and Molly’s Wedding.

The wedding was held outside on the resort’s Palos Verdes Meadows Lawn bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in spite of evening showers and the threat of a tsunami (a result of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile Saturday morning.)

“U2’s Bono makes diva demands while dining with the Edge at New York’s Butter restaurant,” reads the super long – and wrong – headline of a New York Daily News piece today.

Not leaving bad enough alone, the story begins: “Diva alert: U2 front man Bono dined with bandmate Edge at Butter… and another person dining there says he had more than a few demands.”

The paper reports that Bono “wanted Perrier, which they didn’t have, so a waiter actually ran across the street to a store and bought him a bottle.” That’s fairly accurate, though Bono didn’t demand that. The item also claims Bono “demanded that his salad be chopped.”

Bono didn’t demand that either. In fact, he asked that the salad be chopped, the same way anyone else would request, for instance, dressing on the side.

When Gossip Cop contacted Butter’s owner, we were told that, contrary to what “another person dining there” claimed, Bono ”could NOT have been nicer.” The restaurant’s owner further offered that U2’s lead singer “was gracious to [the] staff” and “tipped GREAT,” before hanging out for a while at the hotspot. 

We doubt Bono would “demand” an apology from the person who spread this false report, though the socially conscious singer certainly deserves it.
