Five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Sandra Bullock helped to open an on-campus health clinic at the local high school she had made her cause.
The Oscar-winning actress joined politicians at Warren Easton Charter High School to cut the ribbon on a facility that will provide everything from flu shots to emergency care.
“We’re here to celebrate an anniversary and though that might be hard for some, I choose to emphasize the word ‘celebrate,’” Bullock told the crowd.
“Sometimes tragedies bring out the very best in people and it’s one of the reasons why we stand in this school of excellence today,†she continued.
Bullock has already donated money to the school for renovations, scholarships and supplies including band uniforms.
Easton, the oldest public high school in New Orleans, will now have a $700,000 medical and dental clinic courtesy of the star and grants from The Kellogg Foundation and The San Francisco 49ers Foundation.
A Matt Lauer interview with Bullock, taped at the school, will air on Tuesday.

“Madonna is going crazy to get Lady Gaga on board for her latest world tour,” reports the News of the World.
The tab quotes a so-called “source” as saying, “Madonna is absolutely obsessed with Gaga…Â and desperately wants to work with her.”
And, according to the unnamed source, ”Basically Gaga can name her price” to be a part of Madonna’s upcoming tour.
Here’s what’s accurate: Madonna and Lady Gaga are musicians.
Here’s what’s not accurate: Everything else.
This tale is as wacky as Gaga’s outfits.
A rep for Madonna tells Gossip Cop the report is “totally not true.”
Expect to see it on Perez Hilton with a question mark… in a day or two.

“Halle Berry’s Tug-O-Love,” reads the headline of a National Enquirer story that asserts the Oscar-winning actress is emotionally “torn” between Gabriel Aubry, the father of her daughter Nahla, and Olivier Martinez, her Dark Tide co-star.
According to an Enquirer source, “Halle’s torn… She doesn’t whether to keep trying with Gabriel or give it up for Olivier because he’s sexy, smart and mature.”
The tab goes on to claim Berry’s “conflicted because she still has feelings for Gabe, and now Oliver is in the picture.”
Enough, enough…
Berry and Aubry are not rekindling. As a Berry confidante told Gossip Cop back in June, the actress and the male model “are still friends and raising their daughter, but that’s it.â€
And just a week and a half ago, Gossip Cop reported there was nothing romantic between Berry and Martinez.

(Jesse Csincsak)
Jesse Csincsak and Ann Lueders officially aren’t a Bachelor and Bachelorette anymore.
The former contestants on the two ABC series tied the knot last night in Las Vegas.
Lueders is four months pregnant with the couple’s first child, a boy.
Among the guests at their nuptials were other past “Bachelor†participants including, Vienna Girardi, and married couple Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney Mesnick.
Interestingly, the bride and Molly Malaney vied for Jason Mesnick on “The Bachelor,†and Mesnick and the groom competed against each other for DeAnna Pappas on a season of “The Bachelorette.â€
Fortunately, it ended up well for both the Mesnicks and Csincsaks.
Who’s your favorite “Bachelor†or “Bachelorette†couple?

Justin Bieber was slated to perform tonight at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York, but the teen singing sensation has canceled last minute, due to illness.
Bieber, who has been run down in the past few days and even tweeted two days ago that he’s “been super sick,” will make up the concert on September 1.
But there’s good reason for Bieber being particularly cautious about his health. He wants to be on the top of his game for his concert in two days at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York, because that performance will be shot for his upcoming 3D movie.
The film is set for a February 11, 2011 release.

The Last Exorcism has slightly edged out heist flick Takers for the weekend box office’s top spot.
Backed by horror king Eli Roth, but featuring mostly unknowns, The Last Exorcism brought in $21.3 million in its first weekend. Takers, with an ensemble cast that includes Matt Dillon and Hayden Christensen, banked a close $21 million
The two new films pushed The Expendables — which won in its first two weeks of release — down to a distant third place with $9.5 million.
Among other holdovers, Julia Roberts‘ wish fulfillment journey Eat Pray Love took fourth place with $6.8 million, while Will Ferrell’s comedy The Other Guys came in fifth with $6.2 million.

Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper will reportedly star in an action-comedy about two San Francisco cop buddies whose fathers, former police partners, come out of retirement to help the younger pair solve a case.
The untitled project will have “an updated Lethal Weapon flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. There’s no word yet on which actors would be tapped to play the two fathers.
Reynolds (with The Proposal) and Cooper (with The Hangover) starred in two of last year’s biggest box office hits.
