Natalie Portman Wins Her First Oscar, Prepares To Be A Mom

Natalie Portman Green Top

Natalie Portman trained in the art of Ballet for a year before taking on her role in David Aronofsky’s critically lauded film Black Swan and her hard work paid off with Portman taking home her first Academy Award at Sunday nights awards ceremony.

In the movie Portman played troubled ballerina Nina Sayers and during her speech she had this to say:

“I truly, sincerely, wish the prize was to get to work with my fellow nominees. I’m so in awe of all of you.”

Portman was up against some tough competition including Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right, Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole, Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine and Jennifer Lawrence for Winter’s Bone.

Portman also thanked Benjamin Millepied, her fiance whom she is about to have a baby with. Millepied was her “Swan” choreographer who she worked with to prepare for the role before falling in love with him and eventually becoming pregnant and engaged.

Here’s Natalie Portman giving her full Oscar 2011 acceptance speech:

Three Well Known Hollywood Talents Left Out Of Oscar In Memoriam Montage

Corey Haim - Left Out Of Oscar In Memoriam Montage

As Oscars night 2011 drew to a close a bit of controversy arose after it was pointed out that three well known Hollywood talents were left off the shows “In Memoriam” montag which highlights top Hollywood mainstays who passed since the last Academy Awards show.

Last year Farrah Fawcett was left off the montage and this year Corey Haim, who died of an accidental drug overdose on March 10, 2010 was not seen, just as he was left off the SAG Awards’ own In Memoriam.

Also missing was Peter Graves who died of a heart attack just four days after Haims and All In The Family’s Betty Garrett who passed earlier this month on February 12, 2011.

We understand that the Academy has the right to pick and choose who they include in their In Memoriam, but all three of those one-time Hollywood stars appeared in iconic film and TV roles from Lost Boys to Mission: Impossible (TV Series) to Laverne and Shirley.

Complete List Of Oscar 2011 Winners

Oscar Awards 2011

Early Oscar talk darling The Social Network was only able to pull in awards for best adapted screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), best soundtrack (Trent Reznor) and best film editing, while The King’s Speech pulled in top honors for best actor, best director and the coveted best picture among various other categories.

From the “F Bomb” being dropped to some big upsets, here’s the full list of Oscar 2011 Winners:

1. Best Picture: “The King’s Speech.”

2. Actor: Colin Firth, “The King’s Speech.”

3. Actress: Natalie Portman, “Black Swan.”

4. Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, “The Fighter.”

5. Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo, “The Fighter.”

6. Directing: Tom Hooper, “The King’s Speech.”

7. Foreign Language Film: “In a Better World,” Denmark.

8. Adapted Screenplay: Aaron Sorkin, “The Social Network.”

9. Original Screenplay: David Seidler, “The King’s Speech.”

10. Animated Feature Film: “Toy Story 3.”

11. Art Direction: “Alice in Wonderland.”

12. Cinematography: “Inception.”

13. Sound Mixing: “Inception.”

14. Sound Editing: “Inception.”

15. Original Score: “The Social Network,” Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

16. Original Song: “We Belong Together” from “Toy Story 3,” Randy Newman.

17. Costume Design: “Alice in Wonderland.”

18. Documentary Feature: “Inside Job.”

19. Documentary (short subject): “Strangers No More.”

20. Film Editing: “The Social Network.”

21. Makeup: “The Wolfman.”

22. Animated Short Film: “The Lost Thing.”

23. Live Action Short Film: “God of Love.”

24. Visual Effects: “Inception.”

Did any of the nights winners surprise you? I’m still made about best picture and Eisenberg losing the best actor award to Colin Firth. Apparently Oscar voters don’t want to connect with today’s society, but that’s no big surprise if you have been watching the awards show for the last 20 years or so.
