Adam Rippon politely rejected an invitation from the White House to meet Donald Trump with members of the 2018 U.S. Winter Olympic and Paralympic Teams, because… well, did anyone actually expect him to go??
The Olympic figure skater announced that he was skipping out on the visit Friday morning, noting that he “will not stand with people who discriminate against those that they perceive as different.” He would instead be donating to causes like GLAAD, Planned Parenthood, and the Red Cross.

Plenty of other athletes joined Rippon in rejecting their invitations. Skiers Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Gus Kenworthy, and flag bearer Erin Hamlin also opted to pass on the trip to D.C..
Trump didn’t end up alone on Friday, of course — dozens of athletes from the Winter Games showed up to the party. Only it’s not really a party without Adam Rippon, is it?
Read his tweet (below)!
Olympians from the 2018 Games have been invited to go to the White House today. I will not be going. I will not stand with people who discriminate against those that they perceive as different. In lieu of going to DC, I have donated to a few of my favorite causes ??♂️❤️ https://t.co/qDXqswTHdF
