We’re not really sure why Life & Style feels compelled to scrutinize Suri Cruise, but it’s becoming obnoxious.

Last week, the tabloid argued that the four-year-old had “too much control” over her life and parents Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise.

Since there was no evidence to support that premise, Life & Style has now decided to take a slightly different approach – by contradicting itself and jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

This week, Suri is portrayed as the prisoner of a “twisted world” whose “damaging upbringing” may require the intervention of Holmes’ allegedly alarmed parents.

The big crime here was Holmes taking Suri out for a couple of late nights in New York, first for frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, and then to a performance of Wicked. Life & Style sees a clear indication that Holmes and Cruise “are determined to treat their preschooler like an adult.”

“Do her parents make decisions based on what’s in Suri’s best interest, or do they do what they want and take Suri along?” asks a child psychologist whom the tabloid enlists to make its case that Suri is being dragged through life by her parents.

According to Life & Style, Holmes’ parents “are gravely concerned about how their grandchild is being raised” and desperate to rescue her.

The tabloid also labels Suri a “little girl lost” because she’s supposedly “forced to be a grown-up… or she’s treated like a baby!”

Baffled by Life & Style’s premise?

So is Life & Style!

Because the magazine seemingly cannot grasp the concept that a child sometimes acts younger than her age while behaving older at other times, it invents a bizarre world in which “when Suri’s not being treated like a 20-year-old, she’s being babied.”

“No wonder Suri’s so confused,” concludes Life & Style.

No, she isn’t confused.

Sometimes she uses a pacifier, and sometimes she has a late night.

That’s it. She isn’t caught in some time vortex where flips between adulthood and diapers. She isn’t “lost” in a “twisted world.”

A source close to the family tells Gossip Cop these latest magazine claims are nonsense.

If Life & Style so eagerly (and inaccurately) scrutinizes Suri’s every move at the age of four, just imagine what the tabloid has in store for her teenage years.

Britney Spears gave a surprise performance at Rain Nightclub at Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas last night, singing her new singles “Hold It Against Me,” “Big Fat Bass” and “Till The World Ends,” all from her highly anticipated seventh studio album Femme Fatale.

Roughly 1,500 club goers got to see the iconic pop star’s first time on stage since the close of her Circus tour in 2009.

MTV filmed Spears’ performance for a special scheduled to coincide with Femme Fatale’s release, but Gossip Cop has footage of last night’s “Till The World Ends” below.

Nicole Kidman wants to be watched on the big screen – but not in the makeup chair, according to Star magazine.

The tabloid says the Oscar winner has “rules” for stylists.

“No eye contact is allowed when you’re working on Nicole,” one source tells Star.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is on pace to edge sci-fi/fantasy action release Sucker Punch for the weekend box office crown, according to early estimates.

The sequel to last year’s hit book adaptation, Wimpy Kid 2 trailed on Friday, but the family-friendly movie stands to rise to the top of the heap with approximately $24 million after Saturday and Sunday matinees, compared with $22 million for Sucker Punch.

Last week’s champ, Bradley Cooper’s Limitless, is tracking for a third-place finish with roughly $14 million, while The Lincoln Lawyer ($10 million) and Rango ($8 million) stand to round out the top 5.

Paul and Battle: Los Angeles, both about extraterrestrial visitors, are on pace for $6.5 million apiece, followed by Amanda Seyfried’s Red Riding Hood at $5 million.

The Top 10 chart is expected to finish with The Adjustment Bureau ($4 million) and Mars Needs Moms ($2.5 million).

When we think of Beyonce Knowles we think “Beyonce” and when we think of Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone the name that comes to us is “Madonna” but when we think of Lindsay Lohan, the name “Lindsay” probably isn’t what we think of (insert your own thoughts about Lindsay here), yet the troubled actress is dropping her last name in the hopes that she’ll be the next Oprah or Britney or Brandy or Whitney.

The actress says she wants to go by just her first name, a move that comes just as her mother Dina Lohan prepares to change her own last name back to her maiden “Sullivan” to rid herself of ex-husband Michael’s surname as the family continues to pull further away from him.

Dina on Friday told PopEater:

“Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay. Plus, me and [17-year-old daughter] Ali will be officially changing our last names back to my maiden name, Sullivan.”

When asked about the separation from his family Michael responded with:

”At the outset, it hurts to hear something like that, but at the end of the day, it’s never going to happen. It’s a real shame Dina would make up this kind of story. From the time she came out to California, she’s tried to put a wedge between Lindsay and me,” adding,  “Every time she comes around, she tries to put a wedge, and it’s only harmful to Lindsay and the children. This family needs therapy.”

Michael then goes on to defend the family name:

“I’m proud of the Lohan name. It’s a name of integrity. We all had very successful jobs on Wall Street. My father was an unbelievable provider. My sisters are pillars of the community. There’s not a blemish in my family outside of me.”
