2017 will become 2018 when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve. Gossip Cop has a live stream of the Times Square countdown and ball drop below!

This year’s iconic crystal ball weighs nearly 12,000 pounds and is covered with 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles. To ring in the next year, a new theme, “Gift Of Serenity,” is being introduced with 288 panels installed on the ball designed to look like “intertwining butterflies.” Each panel varies in size and length, ranging from 4.75 inches to 5.75 inches per side. And with around 600 LED lights, the crystal ball is capable of showing more than 16 million vibrant patterns and colors.

For the ninth year in a row, the countdown event is sponsored by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment. For the webcast, Andy Grammer and Lauren Alaina are serving as the musical headliners, performing live for the millions of people in Times Square and those watching from the comforts of their own homes. Grammer has been tasked with leading a New Year’s tradition: Singing John Lennon’s “Imagine” just before the ball drops at midnight. Earlier in the evening, he’ll also perform his signature songs, such as “Honey, I’m Good.” Country star and “American Idol” runner-up Alaina is set to perform her hit tracks “Road Less Traveled” and “What Ifs,” as well as a rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

For the second year running, Jonathan Bennett will host the webcast. He’ll be joined on the stream by Allison Hagendorf, who is returning for her sixth year as one of the Times Square New Year’s Eve emcees. And in what will no doubt be a poignant moment, Tarana Burke, the woman who started the “Me Too” movement, will press the button that kicks off the ball drop. The six-hour, commercial-free broadcast will start at 6 p.m. Eastern with the ball raising. Watch the Times Square live stream below!

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have not been “living separate lives” for “nearly a year,” despite a new tabloid report. Gossip Cop can correct this manufactured story, which falsely alleges the couple is now working to “save their marriage.” We’re told it’s all “false.”

According to the National Enquirer, the James Bond actor has a “new mission”: saving his marriage to Weisz. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “They’re going to spend the next two years in London, so Daniel can get underway on the next James Bond film and Rachel can do some theater.” The publication’s supposed “insider” explains that the new arrangement is “for the good of the family.”

What’s more, the outlet goes on to assert that Craig and Weisz have been living “virtually separate lives” for almost 12 months, but now the couple is determined to get their relationship back on track. “Daniel admitted that he doesn’t like to be alone and would be lost without Rachel,” adds the tabloid’s seemingly made-up “source,” before adding that Weisz wants to “get back to their roots and keep the marriage strong and exciting.”

But the latest article is just one of a string of untrue stories the Enquirer has published about the couple. For example, Gossip Cop previously corrected the supermarket tabloid in July when it wrongly maintained Craig and Weisz’s marriage was in “crisis.” We then busted the same publication for untruthfully alleging Craig and Weisz’s relationship was in trouble, simply because the highly private couple wasn’t photographed together in public for some time. The latest tale is almost identical to those reports, proving the magazine has nothing new to claim and is simply regurgitating its old made-up scenarios.

Regardless of the Enquirer’s long history of publishing untrue stories about Craig and Weisz, Gossip Cop still investigated, and a source close to the couple tells us the new article is completely “false.” The two stars have not been “living separate lives” for the past year, nor do they have any reason to “save their marriage,” which is perfectly fine. The tabloid’s report is than a fabrication.

Another tough trip for the news cycle for Luann de Lesseps, even after she went off to rehab to recover from a not-so-good night in Florida a week ago.

The Countess — a Real Housewives mainstay who is now facing felony charges after attacking a police officer in Palm Beach County, Florida last week — has apparently REALLY angered her ex-husband, the European aristocrat Alexandre de Lesseps.

The French-born de Lesseps is a Count, of course, and that’s why everyone naturally calls Luann the Countess in reference to her former marriage to him… but now, according to Page Six, Luann might be in hot water for using the de Lesseps last name!!!!

A source says that Alexandre is “mortified and ashamed” at Luann’s recent behavior, and continues (below):

“He told her she is ruining the family name and should drop it if she’s continuing to act like this . . . He is watching from abroad and is totally embarrassed.”

Ooooof… Not a great look for the RHONY star.

No word yet on if she’ll actually change her last name — Luann’s maiden name is Nadeau — but it should be known that it doesn’t look like she can legally be forced to drop de Lesseps now that it’s her legal last name. (And yes, in case you’re wondering, she did officially go back to de Lesseps after marrying — and then divorcing — Tom D’Agostino.)

Is Meghan Markle really watching “The Crown” to learn about royal etiquette? That’s what one tabloid is trying to get readers to believe. Gossip Cop, however, can bust the story.

According to the current edition of Life & Style, the hit Netflix series is Markle’s “cheat sheet” now that she’s engaged to marry Prince Harry. The gossip magazine contends the show “isn’t just a guilty pleasure for Meghan; it’s insight into her in-laws.” A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Whenever Prince Harry isn’t home, Meghan watches the show to learn about royal etiquette.”

“With her wedding approaching,” continues this alleged source, “Meghan is nervous she won’t get through thousands of pages on royal protocol in time her big day, so she’s kind of cheating the system by watching the show.” The publication is conjuring an image of Markle as a school student who rents the movie instead of reading the book. Tellingly, though, the outlet and its alleged tipster don’t name a single thing the royal-to-be has supposedly learned from the program.

“The Crown” has won raves from critics and there are royal historians on staff to ensure the program is largely accurate. As such, viewers are, for the most part, getting a relatively authentic look at royal life. But the show moves chronologically and is only in its second season. The first batch of episodes covered 1947 to 1955, while the recently-debuted second collection focuses on 1956 to 1964. There is a lot that’s happened in the world of the royals, and with their bylaws, since the 1960s.

For all the stereotypes about the monarchy being stuck in the rigid past, there’s been new protocols established in various areas to keep up with modernity in the 21st century. While Markle could certainly see on the show how a fictionalized version of Queen Elizabeth once acted during her early reign, it’s laughable to suggest the series could actually be a substitute for all that she needs to learn today in 2017. And it’s not simply a matter of reading “thousands of pages” on royal rules.

Markle is actually getting etiquette lessons in the ways of being a royal, along with safety/security training and more instruction. She also has to learn decades of royal history, well beyond just 1947-1964. As overwhelming as it all may seem, she’s not going it alone. There are people specifically working to teach her everything she needs to know. Merely watching “The Crown” wouldn’t cut it. It seems likely the tabloid is only trying to sell this angle because outlets have been quick to draw comparisons between “The Crown” and Markle’s new life. Even some of the actors from the show have been asked to weigh in.

Still, it’s not surprising Life & Style has gone with a cutesy narrative versus a real and rational one. This is the same magazine that falsely claimed Prince Harry and Markle were engaged in November 2016, a full year before they actually were. Perhaps the outlet is still living in a fantasy world better suited for TV.

Justin Timberlake is not making secret calls to Britney Spears, nor is he having marriage problems with Jessica Biel. Gossip Cop can bust both of these claims.

The Australian version of OK! claims Timberlake and Biel’s marriage is in “crisis,” with the singer complaining to friends that he’s “miserable.” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “If things don’t get better soon, he wants out. [They’ve] been to therapy, but things don’t seem to be improving.” That’s where Spears allegedly comes in.

Contends the tabloid, “With [his] union hanging by a thread, Justin is said to be leaning on ex-girlfriend Britney Spears for support.” A purported “friend” claims to the gossip magazine, “He has been contacting Britney to confide in her about the difficulties in his marriage.” But the publication alleges Timberlake is “keeping his calls to the pop star a secret from his wife.”

Adds the supposed pal, “Justin only sees Britney as a friend, but knows Jessica would be furious if she found out. So he’s keeping his chats with Britney on the DL for now.” As evidence of the exes’ bond, the publication references Timberlake once saying, “We were two birds of the same feather — small-town kids, doing the same thing.” That’s from a Vanity Fair interview with Timberlake that was published in 2011. But OK! deceptively included only part of the quote. He actually went on to say, “But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense.”

He also noted they hadn’t “spoken in 9 or 10 years.” In the same article, Timberlake said of Biel, with whom he was broken up at the time, “She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life. In my 30 years, she is the most special person, O.K.? I don’t want to say much more, because I have to protect things that are dear to me — for instance, her.” The pair later reunited and then married the very next year, in 2012. Now in 2017, a tabloid is cherry-picking part of a six-year-old interview to support the contention that Timberlake’s connection with Spears is helping him deal with woes during his marriage to Biel.

Here’s what’s really going on: Timberlake and Biel just went on a holiday vacation, as documented on Instagram. They are not having any marital problems, which is why the magazine’s story gives not a single specific claim about why their relationship is supposedly in “crisis.” As for Spears, she and Timberlake are not in any kind of regular contact, secret or otherwise.

But because the gossip media loves linking former celebrity couples, this narrative was concocted to give the false impression of some kind of Spears-Timberlake-Biel love triangle. But aside from the old Vanity Fair quote, nothing about this story is based in reality.

As we reported in October, the Cry Me a River singer confirmed he is headlining the Super Bowl LII Halftime Show after previously performing in 2004 and 2001.

Multiple sources also say the former ‘N Sync band member is going to drop a new tune during the first week of January. Man of the Woods is rumored to be the name of the single or the name of his new album.

As seen on his website, Timberlake definitely looks like he’s going to drop something big.

A retired priest who married a Romanian male model 54 years his junior is now homeless and broke after splitting up — DAYS after buying the 24-year-old an apartment.

Retired Rev Philip Clements was branded a “Judas” by local parishioners after he announced plans to marry Florin Marin earlier this year.

Clergymen are banned from performing or entering same-sex marriages under the Church of England rules — but that didn’t stop the 79-year-old from tying the knot with his much younger man, whom he met on an online dating site, back in April!

Months later, the former parish priest sold his home in Sandwich, Kent to buy his young husband an apartment in Romania where the two could start a new life.

While their marriage started off well, things soon went downhill after Clements became isolated in Romania, a country where he had few friends and did not speak the language.

The straw that broke the former priest’s back, however, was when Florin told Clements he was too old to go clubbing with him. Just days after Clements handed Florin over the keys to his Bucharest apartment in August, the pair had an argument and split up.

Now Clements is back in the UK staying with friends, where he remains broke and homeless.

Florin, on the other hand, has already moved on to a new sugar daddy, 48-year-old Jeronimo Jesus de Vega, whom the male model assures is younger and “more wealthy” than his estranged husband.

So sad, mostly for the elder. We hope the former priest finds happiness as he is finally able to be his true self.

One of the favorite tabloid narratives about Kate Middleton is that she’s imminently going to be queen. In fact, multiple outlets falsely claimed Prince William and Middleton were named king and queen in 2017. All the way back in January, for example, Star announced a “palace bombshell.” Egregiously, the gossip magazine wrongly declared, “Dying Queen Elizabeth steps down.”

In the story, it was alleged the queen was in “frail health,” leading her to make “the shocking decision to step down from the throne.” It was then claimed that “instead of passing the crown to her son and rightful heir, Prince Charles, she’s handing over the reign to William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the historic coronation will happen this summer.” The younger royals were supposedly informed of the changes to the succession plan “right after they came back from spending the holidays with Kate’s family.”

Well, summer has come and gone, we’re now in the midst of another holiday season, Queen Elizabeth is alive and well, and there’s been no announcement about Prince William and Middleton taking her place. Time has proven the cover story was a fabrication, just as Gossip Cop said at the time. We also said that when Life & Style purported to have the “official announcement” about Prince William and Middleton being named king and queen in August. Perhaps needless to say, but there was nothing “official” about that article.

Still, later that same month, the outlet tried to capitalize on rumors that Middleton was expecting her third child with the fake news that she was also “named queen.” Days later, it was confirmed that she was indeed pregnant. But there wasn’t confirmation then or since then that she’s taking over the throne. And that’s because she isn’t. Yet the publication tried again in November with a new issue that asserted, “After Royal Battle, William & Kate Named King & Queen.”

The only change that actually did come this year as far as royal duties go is Prince Philip retired in August. Still, that did not affect the chain of succession. Similarly, the other legitimate news about the monarchy in 2017 is that Meghan Markle is engaged to Prince Harry. But that, too, has no influence on whether Queen Elizabeth continues to lead the monarchy. Furthermore, if and when the queen ever decides to abdicate, it won’t be the American gossip media breaking the news.
