George Michael says he “deserved” his jail time for driving under the influence, describing his time behind bars as karma.
“I was assured I wasn’t going to prison but I thought I was, and it was much easier to take because I felt it was deserved,” the singer tells the BBC in an interview for radio broadcast on Monday.
“This was a hugely shameful thing to have done repeatedly, so karmically I felt like I had a bill to pay,” continues Michael. “I went to prison, I paid my bill.”
“It’s so much easier to take any form of punishment if you believe you actually deserve it, and I did.”
The singer was arrested last July after crashing his car through a London storefront while high on marijuana. Michael was later sentenced to eight weeks in jail.
In October, he was released after a month, but he’s been banned from driving for five years.

Trouble keeps following Christina Aguilera.
A new lawsuit claims the singer lifted music from a 1968 Dave Cortez and the Moon People song called “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” for her track “Ain’t No Other Man” – and that Sony Music (Aguilera’s record label) never paid for it.
TufAmerica supposedly purchased exclusive rights to “Hippy Skippy Moon Strut” in 2004, and is asking a federal court to declare it the owner.
The company is seeking damages.
In the last month, Aguilera has botched the national anthem and been arrested for public intoxication.

Oksana Grigorieva has just won $300,000 from ex-boyfriend Mel Gibson, however that money will not go into her pockets, but instead be handed over to hear team of nearly 40 lawyers.
Oksana’s lawyers requested the money which was granted by Judge Scott Gordon who told Gibson’s team that the money must be handed over immediately.
The new amount of money brings Grigorieva’s total lawyer haul from Gibson to a mind boggling number just over $1 million, quite a bit of money to spend when fighting for child support of one child.
If that isn’t enough, it’s believed that Oksana’s lawyers have asked for upwards of more than $3 million to help in her case against her former boyfriend and the father of her child.

Slumdog Millionaire child actress Rubina Ali is homeless for the fourth time in just two years after a fire burnt down her shantytown home, leaving Rubina and more than a dozen family members without a place to stay.
Rubina played Young Latika in the 2008 film and made headlines when her Mumbai home was destroyed to make way for a new railway track. Her second home was flooded by burst pipes and her third home in Jan. 2010 was destroyed by the city once again for redevelopment plans.
The most recent fire has destroyed more than 2,000 homes near Gareeb Nagar.
According to Rubina, during the most recent home loss:
“I lost all the books, wooden toys, photographs and awards that I received for the film.â€
According to her father.
“Soon, a neighbor came to alert us about the fire. We all rushed out after taking only the basic belongings. There was no time to take anything else.”
While Rubina added:
“I had kept all the newspaper clippings that reminded me of how I became famous after ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Now everything is gone. I spent the entire night near the railway station with some people and have just returned to this spot. I don’t even know where the rest of my family members are.â€
According to PopCrunch:
Her family has been given a flat by the Jai Ho Trust — a fund set up by Danny Boyle to support the youngest stars of his blockbuster feature, including Ali’s co-star Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail.
“But it will still take us a month to move there,†Rafique explains. “Had we moved in there earlier, we would not have had to see this day.â€
