While at the Wizard World Chicago event, Guardians of the Galaxy actors Michael Rooker and Dave Bautista decided to gift the world…nay, the entire Galaxy with their recreation of the adorable baby Groot dance.

THE Mystery of Death Valley’s sliding rocks has been solved. Walkers in Death Valley stumble upon rocks lying at the end of trails. How did they move?

Racetrack Playa is home to an enduring Death Valley mystery. Littered across the surface of this dry lake, also called a “playa,” are hundreds of rocks – some weighing as much as 320 kilograms (700 pounds) – that seem to have been dragged across the ground, leaving synchronized trails that can stretch for hundreds of meters.

What powerful force could be moving them? Researchers have investigated this question since the 1940s, but no one has seen the process in action – until now.

In a paper published in the journal PLOS ONE on Aug. 27, a team led by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, paleobiologist Richard Norris reports on first-hand observations of the phenomenon.

Because the stones can sit for a decade or more without moving, the researchers did not originally expect to see motion in person. Instead, they decided to monitor the rocks remotely by installing a high-resolution weather station capable of measuring gusts to one-second intervals and fitting 15 rocks with custom-built, motion-activated GPS units. (The National Park Service would not let them use native rocks, so they brought in similar rocks from an outside source.) The experiment was set up in winter 2011 with permission of the Park Service. Then – in what Ralph Lorenz of the Applied Physics Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University, one of the paper’s authors, suspected would be  “the most boring experiment ever” – they waited for something to happen.

But in December 2013, Norris and co-author and cousin Jim Norris arrived in Death Valley to discover that the playa was covered with a pond of water seven centimeters (three inches) deep. Shortly after, the rocks began moving.

“Science sometimes has an element of luck,” Richard Norris said. “We expected to wait five or ten years without anything moving, but only two years into the project, we just happened to be there at the right time to see it happen in person.”

Their observations show that moving the rocks requires a rare combination of events. First, the playa fills with water, which must be deep enough to form floating ice during cold winter nights but shallow enough to expose the rocks. As nighttime temperatures plummet, the pond freezes to form thin sheets of “windowpane” ice, which must be thin enough to move freely but thick enough to maintain strength. On sunny days, the ice begins to melt and break up into large floating panels, which light winds drive across the playa, pushing rocks in front of them and leaving trails in the soft mud below the surface.

“I’m a true believer that everything has to start out as a friendship first,” he explains. “Everybody that I was serious with, it always started with, ‘Yo, let’s just be cool’ and it ended up being something else.”

“You never want to make it about the individual,” Cannon adds. “You say, ‘Hey, what are you and your friends doing? I want to come hang out with y’all.’ Or, ‘let’s all go together.’ So that takes all the pressure off of it of this whole one on one conversation.’”

Following news of their breakup, Cannon and Carey, 44, have reportedly gotten together to discuss the terms of their impending divorce

Robert Pattinson, the guy who makes everyone’s hearts throb (and some other body parts throb too), was seen hanging out with British singer FKA twigs in NYC yesterday.

That’s right, FKA twigs, née Tahliah Barnett, released her debut album, LP1, which featured singles Two Weeks and Pendulum, this past year.

We wonder if (in the presence of Robert) her clothes dropped as hard as her album, because ours would! He can sink his fangs into us any day of the week!

It also sounds like she’s still feeling the sting of all the anger that came her way after she was found cheating on Robert Pattinson with her ‘Snow White’ director, Rupert Sanders. Kristen discussed what it was like to get a lot of tabloid attention.

I never really thought of anything in terms of designing a career. I never tried to shape people’s perspectives of me, which is something that a lot of people do. There are certain actors and artists who want to be a certain kind of actor or certain kind of artist, and I’m really not like that. I have very much fallen into every situation, every creative and not creative experience, that I have delved into, based on gut. Therefore true regret can never eat at me.

In terms of what people consume about you and then subsequently how they shape their opinion of you, none of it is wrong. It’s all a varied assortment of whatever flavors they’ve picked up at the newsstand or in the theater or on the Internet. But that literally is something that is not designed by me and so it’s not something that bothers me. But I don’t want to add to this already pre-existing, enormous mound of salacious bulls**t that isn’t real. That’s not me defending anything. That’s true.

Just being in the middle of it it’s weird to comment on it…The stories are fun, but do you not realize that there are characters that have been cast in the media and people like to get their weekly fill on these stories. It’s like soap opera. I try not to let it mess with me, because my true personal life, as much as people think they know about it, they don’t know d**k s**t. Who could?

By the way nobody knows. Nobody knows what the f**k is going on. You’re going to die. You’re going to lay next to the people that you know the most in life, the people that you’re going to grow old with. But you’re going to lay next to them in the middle of the night deeply curious about them and who they are, because nobody f***ing knows anything.

The end got a bit extreme, but I think she actually has a healthy attitude about tabloid attention. Ultimately, a lot of it probably is made up!
