American Sniper debuted its first trailer on Thursday.
The movie stars Bradley Cooper as real-life Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who is considered the “most lethal sniper in U.S. history.”
In the preview, Cooper’s character struggles with possibly having to shoot a child carrying an explosive device, as clips of his pre-Navy life are interspersed.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, Cooper grew a beard and put on a reported 40 pounds for the role.
Clint Eastwood directs the film, based on Kyle’s memoir of the same name.
Sienna Miller also stars, playing Kyle’s wife.
American Sniper will have a limited release on Christmas Day, and then expand to more theaters beginning January 16, 2015.
Kyle, who was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2009, was shot and killed by a former Marine at a shooting range last year.
