Blake Shelton may be doing great as a judge on the new show The Voice, but he’s upsetting others with his comments off set. He is apologizing for one of his recent tweets that came across as anti-gay.

“Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy…”

The original lyrics to this part of the song are, “Any man of mine better walk the line – Better show me a teasin’ squeezin’ pleasin’ kinda time.” Within hours of posting this rewrite, the gay rights group GLAAD released a statement ordering Shelton to apologize for the offensive tweet, stating that “violence against the LGBT community is not a laughing matter.” Shelton quickly responded to the uproar to apologize and called the whole thing a misunderstanding.

“It honestly wasn’t even meant that way… I now know that their are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere.”

He continued to apologize by tweeting several more times. He let GLAAD and fans of The Voice know that he thinks violence is unacceptable, and even declared that when it comes to gay rights or “just feelings,” he loves everybody.

Comparing his lyrics to the original, it doesn’t seem like he could have meant it any other way than what everyone assumed. Of course he’s going to apologize when faced with public outrage, but he should have reconsidered before tweeting that unnecessary thought in the first place.
