Caitlyn Jenner is calling out Donald Trump for breaking his “promise” after he announced a ban on transgender people serving in the military. But even before she weighed in, the transgender star was a trending topic on Twitter.
As Gossip Cop reported, on Wednesday morning Trump tweeted that transgender people will not be allowed to serve in the U.S. military. He wrote in a series of tweets, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.
Well, many aren’t thanking him back. As Gossip Cop noted earlier, Trump is getting lambasted by celebrities on Twitter, and “The View” co-hosts also slammed the ban. Now one of the most prominent LGBT stars is ripping the president, too. Jenner tweeted several hours after the announcement, “There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us. What happened to your promise to fight for them?”
Indeed, prior to winning the election, Trump vowed on Twitter and on the campaign trail that no would fight harder for the LGBT community that him. Like dozens of others, Jenner is pointing out that doesn’t actually seem to be the case. And as we previously reported, Jenner admitted on “The View” recently that she’s been “disappointed” with the president’s work in this area. “I thought he would be more outspoken when it came to LGBT issues… He was very open about it in the beginning,” she said.
The Olympian, however, went on to reveal she’s met with members of his administration, and wanted to give Trump a chance to prove his worth as president. “Give the guy some time. It’s been what, six months? Let’s give the guy some time,” she insisted. Her overall support of Trump has led to a lot of criticism, and that’s in fact the reason why her name was trending on Twitter in the wake of this latest blow against the transgender community. The “I Am Cait” star also caught flak earlier this year when some felt Jenner waited too long to respond to Trump dropping protections for transgender students in schools.
