Fantasia Barrino overdosed on aspirin and a sleep aid, says her manager.

Ms. Barrino’s team has released a statement, part of which reads:

“Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized. She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid. Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon.”

The police classified the incident as a suicide attempt.

“American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino was rushed to a hospital on Monday for a “medication overdose,” her rep confirms.

Sources tell North Carolina NBC affiliate WCNC that doctors do not believe Barrino’s condition was life-threatening.

It is not clear whether the overdose was accidental or intentional, nor is it known what medications may have been involved.

Barrino was admitted to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville just before 9:00 pm.

The singer recently became entangled in an infidelity scandal with sex tape allegations, but has denied being responsible for the marriage’s end.
