The new Ghostbusters, headlined by four women, has reportedly been cast. According to multiple reports, the quartet will be Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. McCarthy is said to have signed on to the project, while the studio is reportedly in final negotiations with the other three potential stars.

Director Paul Feig made things all but official on Tuesday, tweeting a picture of the four actresses (see right). It’s expected that the four comedic performers will be on board in time for a summer shoot in New York.

While it’s been known for some time that the new Ghostbusters would revolve around a female cast, leading to months of speculation about the possible lineup, nothing had been finalized. Wiig and McCarthy’s names repeatedly came up as potential stars, but McKinnon and Jones are more of a surprise.

The stars have some built-in familiarity through “Saturday Night Live,” where McKinnon and Jones are current performers in the cast, Wiig is a recent alum, and McCarthy is a multiple-time host. McCarthy and Wiig also co-starred in the smash hit Bridesmaids, which was directed by Feig.

There are no plot details yet for the new Ghostbusters, which is finally coming back to the big screen more than 25 years after the sequel to the beloved 1980s classic featuring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. What do you think of the new cast?
