Hackers Post Fake ‘Tupac Alive in New Zealand’ Story on PBS Site

Hackers on the PBS website posted a fake story tonight claiming deceased rapper Tupac Shakur was alive and living in New Zealand.

The same bogus report said the late hip-hop star Biggie Smalls was also residing in the country.

Shortly after publication, the fake story was removed.

It read, in part:

“Prominent rapper Tupac has been found alive and well in a small resort in New Zealand, locals report. The small town – unnamed due to security risks – allegedly housed Tupac and Biggie Smalls (another rapper) for several years. One local, David File, recently passed away, leaving evidence and reports of Tupac’s visit in a diary, which he requested be shipped to his family in the United States.”

The hack is being attributed to “Lulz Security,” which earlier this month broke into FOX, stealing personal information about employees and potential contestants on “The X Factor.”

After posting the fake Tupac story, the group taunted PBS in a series of tweets as the rumor began to spread. It also released sensitive information and passwords pertaining to employees.
