A new report alleges a fan mistook Matthew Perry for Joe Scarborough, but the entire story is made-up. Gossip Cop, however, can reveal the truth. We’re told it’s “false.”
According to the repeatedly discredited National Enquirer, which routinely posts inaccurate stories about the actor, Perry was “dumbstruck” when a confused female fan mistook him for journalist Scarborough, gushing over how “hot and hip” he looked on TV. The supermarket tabloid purports that the young fan “chugged on” about Scarborough’s fiancee and “Morning Joe” co-host, Mika Brzezinski, leaving Perry “baffled” by the strange encounter.
In bizarrely unnatural language, the publication’s seemingly non-existent “source” tells the outlet, “Matt protested he isn’t engaged, but the lass persisted, saying, ‘You even talked about it, and she was right there, that cute blonde with the pixie.’” The tabloid’s questionable tipster further contends that the female fan blurted, “‘You sang a pinky song with your rock band on Stephen Colbert’s late night TV show. You’re Joe Scarborough, right?’”
“That’s when Matt got it,” adds the magazine’s dubious source. “It’s not the first time he’s been misrecognized as the famed journalist who fronts TV’s ‘Morning Joe’ news show with co-host and pixie fiancee Brzezinski!” But, if it wasn’t already obvious, the entire story is manufactured. While there is a passing resemblance between the two men, the Enquirer’s piece is completely made up.
The magazine fails to provide any specifics about the supposed encounter between Perry and the female fan, convincing Gossip Cop that the story is 100 percent bogus. Notwithstanding, we checked in with a source close to the “Friends” star who assures us the report is simply “false.” Of course, coming from the same outlet that wrongly (and cruelly) claimed in April that Perry had suffered a stroke, we’re not remotely surprised by its latest piece of fake news.
