Mel Gibson is now OUT of The Hangover 2.
Director Todd Phillips released a statement today announcing that the controversial actor’s cameo in the comedy sequel has been pulled.
“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of [Warner Bros. president] Jeff Robinov and his team,†said Phillips in a statement.
“But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.â€
One prominent cast member who may have expressed discomfort with Gibson is Zach Galifianakis.
During a recent interview, Galifianakis mentioned turning down some roles on moral grounds before adding, “But a movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss.”
“I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway.â€
Galifianakis refused to say what he was referencing, but after interviewer Scott Aukerman pressed, “I know you’re filming The Hhhhhhhh … “ Galifianakis admitted, “It has something to do with a movie I’m working on, yeah. I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.â€
It looks like cast members like Galifianakis got their way — Gibson is out.
