The 25-year-old soccer star, who is a forward for Olympiacos soccer team in Greece and was a member of Mexico’s 2014 World Cup team, was apparently grabbed early Sunday morning after leaving a party near his hometown of Ciudad Victoria.

Attorney General Ismael Quintanilla, speaking about the incident, said:

“We have information that he was intercepted by armed persons and since then his whereabouts are unknown.”

Mexican goalkeeper Jesus Corona shared his thoughts about the unfortunate incident, too:

“A shame what happened. My prayers are with him and his family at this difficult time.”

Pulido’s home soccer club, the Tigres of Monterrey, were equally distraught about their player, and expressed ‘solidarity’ with the player’s family during this difficult time.

Tamaulipas has seen extensive battles and violence between major drug gangs, and at least right now, this appears to be an extension of that situation.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Pulido and his family, friends, and loved ones.
