Michael Phelps is representing the US in the pool AND in the Rio Opening Ceremony!
On Friday, the sports star helped ring in the 2016 Games with a pretty huge responsibility! The swimmer represented the States by bearing the American flag at the Maracanã Stadium.

The acclaimed athlete was chosen for the honor by a vote from Team USA!
But Brazilian athlete Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima had the most important job of all… lighting the ceremonial cauldron!
