When Gossip Cop was very, very young, we learned not to believe in leprechauns, unicorns, or Perez Hilton’s sources.
Today America’s favorite fact-challenged blogger “scooped” everyone with a story about Lindsay Lohan keeping a commercial British Airways flight from Los Angeles to London waiting for two hours while she shopped.
According to Perez, once getting to the airport Lohan was hit with a “$22,000 stalling fine for keeping the plane grounded,” and in “a HIGHlarious turn of events, she couldn’t come up with a credit card that had a high enough limit to pay the charge!!!!!”
You read that correctly.
Perez Hilton believes intercontinental flights filled with paying customers will wait for a celebrity — for hours — as long as a magical “stalling fine” is paid.
Gossip Cop had a nice long laugh, pulled it together, and simply asked British Airways what Perez could have asked : Whether any flights from Los Angeles to London had even been delayed for two hours.
Nope, a rep for British Airways told us.
Then Gossip Cop asked whether someone could keep hundreds of people waiting so long as he or she pays a “stalling fine.”
To no one’s surprise, British Airways assured us no such thing exists.
Much like leprechauns, unicorns, and Perez Hilton’s credibility.
