There’s no split decision here: Split is going to win the weekend box office. Get the details, and check out the Top 10 estimates below!
Split is the latest thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, who wrote both the script and directed the project. The film stars James McAvoy as a man with dissociative identity disorder, giving him multiple personalities. Gossip Cop won’t give away any of the twists, but suffice it to say, the movie is this weekend’s big draw.
Split will easily take the number one spot with $ 34 million. The weekend’s other big opening is Vin Diesel’s xXx: The Return Xander Cage. And in contrast, it’s on track to have a second-place debut with only $ 19 million.
Hidden Figures, fresh off its meaningful box office victories, is slipping down to third with around $ 16 million. It should be followed by Sing, if the animated family flick brings in $ 8.5 million to land in fourth. The musical La La Land could have a fifth-place finish, provided its receipts total $ 8.2 million.
Ticket sales of $ 6.8 million would put Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the number six spot. Monster Trucks is eyeing a $ 6.1 million haul to nab seventh. Possibly rounding out the Top 10 are Patriots Day ($ 5.3 million), The Bye Bye Man ($ 3.3 million), and Sleepless ($ 3.1 million). All figures are currently estimates, and Gossip Cop will have updates.
