Ted Koppel’s son, Andrew, was found dead in a New York apartment – not his own – after what was described as a day of binge drinking.

The former “Nightline” host’s son was pronounced dead yesterday morning at around 1:30 a.m. after police were called to a rundown apartment building in Washington Heights, New York.

Andrew Koppel, an attorney, reportedly began his bender at around noon in a midtown Manhattan bar, where he met a man with whom he continued drinking whiskey until his new drinking buddy, identified as Russell Wimberly, brought the completely smashed Koppel to an apartment in Queens to sleep off the booze.

Belinda Caban, who lives in the apartment, told  the New York Post, “We took him to the bedroom and laid him down to rest.”

But after Caban and Wimberly didn’t hear Koppel snoring anymore, and then found him unconscious in his own waste, they grew concerned.

“His complexion wasn’t right. It was pale,” said Caban. They then called paramedics, and “when the ambulance came” said Caban, “He was dead.”

Andrew was Ted Koppel’s only son, and the father of a young daughter.

Ted Koppel has yet to issue a statement.
