The Scripps National Spelling Bee Ends In A Tie… Again! Plus, One Of The Winners Is A Reality TV Alum!

We’re so happy!

Just like Lily Tomlin‘s character in Grace and Frankie, the Scripps National Spelling Bee is one of our favorite times of the year.

The Hunger Games of language arts had its final on Thursday and, just like last year, the Bee ended in a tie after 20 rounds when the judges ran out of contest-approved words!

The winners were none other than 13-year-old Vanya Shivashankar and 14-year-old Gokul Venkatachalam, both of whom have competed in the Bee since 2012.

And you may actually recognize Vanya from another show — She was was the winner (and our fav) of Lifetime‘s Child Genius competition this season where she beat out that 11-year-old who just graduated from college.

Prior to the 2014 event, a draw hadn’t happened for Scripps since 1962 — and now it’s happened twice in a row!

Congratulations. C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S. Congratulations, Vanya and Gokul!
