Unfortunately sometimes it takes an up close look to see the truth.
The Josh Abbott Band was one of the featured performers on Sunday night at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas that was targeted by a lone gunman in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Though all members are safe and sound, they are forever changed by the horrific experience.
Frontman Josh Abbott (above, right) gave fans and friends live updates on the band’s safety on Twitter, writing:
as
Active shooter by us in Vegas. Say some prayers

Everyone in JAB is accounted for. They evacuated us from Mandalay. My fiancée is still in room. They won’t let me in but she’s safe

Update: I got back to Taylor & our room in Mandalay about 30 minutes ago. The rest of the band & crew are home now. Was a long awful night

I’ll never unhear those gunshots; and our band & crew will never forget how that moment made them feel. Our hearts are with all the victims

But it was lead guitarist Caleb Keeter (above, left) who voiced the profound effect the events had on his politics.

In a lengthy, heartfelt statement he describes being a lifelong Second Amendment advocate — who came face to face with the realization that all the responsible gun owners on hand could do nothing to stop a single motivated madman with automatic weapons.
He wrote:
“Writing my parents and the love of my life a goodbye last night and a living will because I felt like I was going to live through the night was enough for me to realize that this is completely and totally out of hand.”

I was wrong, stupid, and selfish for thinking otherwise.
— Caleb Keeter (@Calebkeeter) October 2, 2017
In true country fashion, Caleb followed it up with:
That being said, I’ll not live in fear of anyone. We will regroup, we’ll come back, and we’ll rock your fucking faces off. Bet on it.

We’re glad Caleb sees the insanity of our gun laws now and heartbroken it took this experience for someone to understand this.
