Tiger Woods was involved in a single-car accident at 2:25 a.m. Friday morning. The crash occurred near his Windermere mansion in the gated Isleworth community, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Woods was treated for facial lacerations after his 2009 Cadillac Escalade struck a fire hydrant and a tree in his neighbor’s yard.
Police Chief Daniel Saylor said that Wood’s wife Elin Nordegren, who was in the home at the time of the crash, broke out the rear window and pulled her husband out of the vehicle. Saylor said, “There was Tiger Woods laying on the ground in front of the vehicle with his wife over him rendering first aid. He was in and out of consciousness with lacerations to his upper and lower lip. He was mumbling but didn’t say anything coherent.â€
Rumors have circulated recently that Woods has been having an affair with Rachel Uchitel and TMZ is reporting that the car crash happened as a result of an argument between Woods and Nordegren over the alleged affair. According to TMZ, Nordegren inflicted the injuries to her husband causing him to flee the residence. She chased him with a golf club and smashed out the back window of the Escalade, causing Woods to lose control of the vehicle and crash.
Woods has refused to talk to Florida Highway Patrol investigators who have attempted to interview th golfer on three occasions about the accident. Woods did post the following statement on his website Monday:
“As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I’m pretty sore.
This situation is my fault, and it’s obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I’m human and I’m not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn’t happen again.
This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.
The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.
This incident has been stressful and very difficult for Elin, our family and me. I appreciate all the concern and well wishes that we have received. But, I would also ask for some understanding that my family and I deserve some privacy no matter how intrusive some people can be.”
