Mel Gibson has been charged with simple misdemeanor battery, avoiding a felony domestic violence count that could have landed him in jail.
Gibson will plead no contest when he is formally arraigned today at LA Superior Court at 1:30 PT.
As Gossip Cop reported earlier, the actor will avoid jail with this plea deal, but will be required to undergo regular counseling.
The charge stems from Gibson’s infamous January 2010 blowup with Oksana Grigorieva, who claims the star hit her while she held their daughter Lucia.

Olivia Wilde has filed for divorce from her husband Tao Ruspoli.
The couple publicly separated last month after 7 years of marriage, although sources tell Gossip Cop they’d actually been separated for a while before February.
Wilde cites “irreconcilable differences” in documents filed with Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The “House” actress and Ruspoli have no children.
They married secretly on a school bus in June 2003.

Eddie Cibrian just snagged the lead in “Playboy,” a new series set at the glamorous Playboy Club in the 1960s.
Cibrian will play Nick Dalton, a Chicago attorney who is also a club Keyholder with special ties to the exclusive hot spot.
LeAnn Rimes‘ beau replaces Jeff Hephner, who was pulled from the show after producers apparently had a change of heart about the casting choice.
Amber Heard and Laura Benanti will also star in the show, which is set to begin filming next week in Chicago.

The Pacific tsunami has halted shooting on Breaking Dawn.
Cast and crew have been evacuated from the film’s Tofino production location on the coast of British Columbia.
Summit Entertainment has released the following statement: “Due to the tsunami advisory, filming of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ has been delayed.”
“All cast and crew were evacuated to the movie production’s base camp. Everyone is safe and sound.”

A number of stars reached out to the people of Japan after a devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami rocked the country.
Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Alyssa Milano and even Charlie Sheen are among the celebs taking to Twitter to express their condolences and concern for Japan.
“I’m sending my thoughts and prayers and love to those in Japan who are hurting,†Swift tweeted.
Bieber wrote, “Japan is one of my favorite places on earth…it’s an incredible culture with amazing people. My prayers go out to them. We all need to help.”
Kardashian tweeted, “My prayers are with everyone in Japan!”
Hilton expressed her shock at the devastation, writing, “The images on the news are breaking my heart. I am so worried for everyone in Japan. My thoughts are with you Japan. God bless you all.”
And Milano urged her followers to help out, asking them to donate to the Red Cross.
Even Sheen took a break from his personal media campaign to think of the victims, writing, “Curveball; Warlock edict; pain & devastation in Japan demands us all to dig deep & LOVE THEM VIOLENTLY Dogspeed my cadres of the Far East! c”

The 27-year-old Tron: Legacy actress filed papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week, citing Irreconcilable Differences from her husband of eight years.
