Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced yesterday that they had separated, but the couple is still in touch and, according to the former California governor, they are “taking it one day at a time” and still “love each other very much.”
While receiving an award on Tuesday night at a 63rd Israeli Independence Day celebration at the Skirball Cultural Center in L.A., Schwarzenegger opened up about his separation.
He thanked the audience for “the tremendous amount of support and love that you have given us in the last 24 hours,” and noted, “I just spoke to Maria an hour ago before I came here… We both were saying the same thing — we’re extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people, by so many wonderful friends.”
Schwarzenegger added, “We both love each other very much… We’re very fortunate to have four extraordinary children. And we’re taking it one day at a time. The bottom line is we want to thank all the people for their great, great support.”
Yesterday, the couple released a joint statement in which they said they had separated after 25 years of marriage.

Cameron Diaz, Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Shia LaBeouf, Patrick Dempsey, Nicki Minaj and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will be among the presenters at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, airing live on June 5.
Leighton Meester, Josh Duhamel and Katie Cassidy will also be handing out the golden popcorn statuettes.
The ceremony – the 2oth annual event for the network – will be hosted by Jason Sudeikis at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, Calif.
“I’m sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded movie awards show hosting in 2011 alive,” says Sudeikis.

Justin Bieber is striking back at Marg Helgenberger, the “CSI” actress who called him a “brat” in a recent French radio interview.
The Biebs tweeted today, “it’s kinda lame when someone you met briefly and never worked with comments on you. I will continue to wish them luck and be kind.”
The teen singer added, “I know who i am and sometimes people r just going 2 say what they want. Keep ur head up and be the man ur mama raised. #killemwithkindness.”
Helgenberger told a radio show that Bieber was “kind of a brat” when he guest starred on “CSI” last fall, noting the singer “locked one of the producers in a closet†and “put his fist through a cake that was on the cast’s table.â€
