Celebrities are paying tribute to Bob Simon after the longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent was killed in a car crash on Wednesday night. He was 73.

CBS News announced the veteran reporter’s death after he succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident, which occurred when a town car he was a passenger in struck another vehicle in New York City before slamming into metal traffic barriers. Simon, who was a foreign news reporter before joining “60 Minutes” in 1996, amassed many famous admirers over the course of his decades-long career, some of whom have taken to Twitter to mourn his loss.

Katie Couric tweeted, “Heartbreaking news about Bob Simon of @60Minutes, a brilliant writer and reporter and someone I admired deeply.” Larry King expressed, “So sorry to learn of the passing of Bob Simon. He was a great reporter & wonderful man. A frequent guest of mine. So sorry to hear this. RIP.” Anderson Cooper wrote, “Stunned to report the death of legendary CBSNews correspondent #BobSimon.”

“What a loss,” exclaimed Al Roke. Maria Shriver shared, “My heart goes out to Bob’s family. I worked with him. True journalist.” Patty Duke tweeted, “RIP Bob Simon, one of the greatest reporters. My love and prayers to Mr. Simon’s family. #bobsimon.” And Billie Jean King wrote on her page, “Bob Simon was a legendary journalist. Always admired his work and devotion to getting the true story. My thoughts are with his family.”

“Condolences to the family of my friend and long-time colleague, CBS News Correspondent Bob Simon,” tweeted Dan Rather. David Gregory wrote, “Bob Simon’s writing and storytelling were the best of what tv journalism can be. He leaves a huge void. My prayers are w his family and CBS.” Jeff Daniels revealed, “Had the pleasure of speaking with Bob Simon before the #Newsroom Season 1 Premiere in NYC. R.I.P., Sir.”

Piers Morgan acknowledged, “Never met Bob Simon but wish I had. Loved his reports, loved his style. Truly, one of the greats of TV journalism.” Gilbert Gottfried similarly said, “I never met him, but it feels like I knew him after all these years of watching @60Minutes. RIP Bob Simon.” “Late Night” host Seth Meyers wrote, “Gutted to hear the news about Bob Simon. An absolute master of his craft.”

Alyssa Milano wrote “Oh no,” upon hearing the news, and Andy Cohen tweeted, “CBS News journalist Bob Simon was a legend in his field. How tragic. RIP.” “Terrible news Bob Simon dying today in a car accident. I’ve always enjoyed his reporting on 60 Minutes over the years,” remarked Dane Cook. “Tragic.” Gossip Cop will have updates.

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson did NOT have the “fight to end all fights,” despite a new Star cover story, which falsely alleges they had a “drunken brawl” after she supposedly caught him with “another woman.” Gossip Cop can exclusively bust this report, as we’ve correctly busted countless outrageously false Star stories about Simpson over the years.

According to the magazine, there was a “violent scene” in the lobby of the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood earlier this month, with Simpson allegedly “screaming at her husband” and Johnson “collapsing into their chauffeured car with a bloody gash on his nose.” Star claims the couple’s marriage could be on the “brink of collapse” after the purported fight, which the tabloid’s insider claims happened after Simpson “saw Eric exchange glances with another woman.”

Star alleges the unidentified brunette caught Johnson’s eye, and that “all hell broke loose” after Johnson got up to use the bathroom and Simpson allegedly found him chatting with the mystery woman. Simpson is said to have flown into a “jealous rage.” According to the outlet’s source, Simpson bloodied Johnson’s nose by hitting him with her designer bag. Star says they eventually left with Simpson furious and Johnson drunk, allegedly leaving behind a hotel full of people who couldn’t stop talking about the incident.

Weird. Because Star makes it sound like the couple had a prolonged, verbal and physical fight in a very public place, and yet NO ONE besides Star has mentioned it. Literally ALL Star has is a picture of Johnson sitting in the car with a cut on his nose. Around that, an entire fabricated story was concocted.

It’s “totally ridiculous,” a rep exclusively tells Gossip Cop. The cut on Johnson’s nose, unfortunately for Star, is the result of a much less sensational story. The rep tells Gossip Cop the couple’s son Ace was falling off a slide when Johnson jumped to help him and hit his face on the playground equipment. That might explain why all those alleged “eyewitnesses” Star cites didn’t bother to take pictures of two celebrities physically striking each other, or tell any other outlets. Simply, it never happened.

The rep tells Gossip Cop that Simpson and Johnson have “no marriage troubles,” and the Star story about him flirting with another woman is completely false. Of course, that’s nothing new for Star. Just two months ago, Star claimed Simpson had stopped talking to her sister Ashlee because of a rift between Johnson and Ashlee’s husband Evan Ross. That was 100 percent untrue. Back in November, Star said Simpson and Johnson were going to do a reality show together. That was made up. Three weeks before that, Star insisted Simpson and Johnson were separating. That was false. These are just some of the stories Star has gotten completely wrong about Simpson and Johnson recently. The magazine has been spreading lies about her for years, at one point even linking her to Tiger Woods. It’s craziness, and it has to stop.

Dakota Johnson and Jimmy Fallon did a bit on Tuesday’s “Tonight Show” called “Anything Can Be Sexy,” in which they took turns reading random unsexy sentences, which they made sexy by the way they said them. Fallon kicked it off, by saying in a sultry style, “I want to go fishing this afternoon. Know where I can buy grubs or worms?” Next, Johnson, who stars in Fifty Shades of Grey, sexily said, “Excuse me while I slip into a pair of old sweatpants.” And it continued getting crazier from there. Fallon then purred as sexy as possible from Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, “Mesa called Jar-Jar Binks. Mesa your humble servant.” That was followed by Johnson asking in a sexy voice, “Excuse me, sir, but this strawberry flavored chapstick just fell out of your fanny pack.” “Sure, I’d love to take off my underwear, but you’ll have to excuse the cloud of Gold Bond powder,” Fallon said steamily. And finally, while flipping her hair coquettishly, Johnson made sexy the phrase, “Let’s go to Red Lobster. I’ll get the cheddar bay biscuits, and you can get the popcorn shrimps.”

On Monday, Johnson’s co-star Jamie Dornan was on the “Tonight Show” and played “Fifty Accents of Grey” with the talk show host, during which the two read passages from the novel “Fifty Shades of Grey” using accents from different parts of the world.
